Reincarnation of Buddha
Opening : 1/6/ 2013 to 8/6/2013
Artist Sandhya Regmi (Nepal)
Buddhism is a fusion of religion and philosophy. Buddhism is a religion to the extent that it is characterized by devotional practices and rituals devotion to the Buddha or Buddhahood. However, it neither involves belief in a creator God who has control over human destiny, nor seeks to define itself by reference to a religious belief. In addition, Buddhism has been described as a philosophy, a way of life, a code of ethics, and science of mind. Its path is driven by the goal of attending self-knowledge and freedom.
Buddha is an enlightened teacher who shared his insights to help others end their suffering ("dukkha") through the elimination of ignorance ("agyana") and the attainment of the cessation of all suffering, known as the sublime state of "nirvāņa". Besides Siddhartha Gautama, it is believed that other Buddhas existed and will come into being. A Buddha is a fully awakened being who has completely purified his mind of the three poisons of desire, aversion, and ignorance, and has ended the suffering which unawakened people experience in life. Such reincarnation of Buddha is believed to take place in different time and place.
This exhibition "Reincarnation of Buddha" attempts to portray Buddhist monks, who have marched or are marching their ways to the path of world peace, hope, leadership, knowledge, and karma yoga. They all have the origin in Nepal, the place where Siddhartha Gautama Buddha was born. Each of them has taken different route, but each and every track merge to the same point, the point of attending the enlightenment.
1. A monk dedicated for the prosperity of Nepali language and literature
2. A monk who has shown rays of hope for success in life with the inner strength of determination, courage and perseverance
3. A monk in the route of Karma Yoga ("Work is Worship")
4. A monk of philosophy and leadership
5. Group of monks marching for peace
6. Group of monks towards Enlightenment
